My name is Lisa and I live in Lee Vining, CA the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park and on the shores of Mono Lake. I started in spring of this year by taking Larry Tusoni’s class in Angel’s Camp on the other side of the Sierra Nevada. In fact, I will be finishing my first rod (from that class) this weekend and am eager to begin my own first rod after that! I’ve been fly fishing for about 25 years, tying my own flies for about ten and so this seemed like the natural next step. My obsession with bamboo began with purchasing a rod from Mike Clark and I was immediately drawn to everything about it: the artistic beauty of it, the craftsmanship, and the graceful feel of how bamboo casts. Bamboo has elevated my fly fishing.

It was my dad who introduced me to fishing as a young child and fly fishing evolved from those early experiences. When he died I wanted to honor his life somehow by using all of the woodworking tools he had collected through the years. Making bamboo rods will allow me to do that. I have been collecting other tools and equipment and reading all the books. My large garden shed is now my bamboo workshop. I know I have a lot to learn but being part of this list has been very helpful. And to read everyone’s personal story is inspiring. In time, I look forward to meeting or communicating with many of you.

I’m surrounded with great fishing options so if you’re driving through Lee Vining, stop and say hello!
