I am brand new to the list as well. I have been watching for a while, and I have spent a ridiculous amount of time in Todd's archives of the list.

I have been fishing as long as I can remember, and fly fishing for 10-15 years. Cane caught my interested about 5 years ago. I have a couple refinishes and a PMQ under my belt going into 2011 and I my first hex project is underway.

While fiddling with bamboo, I have been semi active on the Rod Building Forum under the moniker Bowbound. I may change that handle soon, as I don't like it very much, and never expected to use it so much.

I am based in Calgary, Alberta, on the banks of the mighty Bow River. Most of my fishing is on the Bow within the city limits. I don't have as much time as I used to. I still fish plastic occasionally (winter, mostly), but I'm hoping my first hex build will cover all but big pike and bull trout streamers.

I am a 30 something professional in the oil and gas industry, and I have a young and growing family. I have very little time, and a bunch of priorities over rod building. I don't build during the fishing months, and hunting sometimes cuts into the early winter months as well. I enjoy working with cane a lot, and I will stick to it, even if I can only scrape out a rod every year, or few years.

I made my first question on the list just the other day and received a solid response, based on a wealth of experience. I look forward to asking more, but, more so, I hope to answer a few down the road.
