I went to the craft store and bought 1 (8 x 12) and 1 (6 x 12) wood  rectangular plaques.  (Actually, you could make your own and just route the edges or not as you wish)  Also, 2 6" rounds, a half inch dowel and some 5/8 inch dowel.  I think from the picture you can see how to assemble it.  An added refinement would be to build a reel holder, perhaps on another stand.  I never really saw the need for it though.
