Richard Westerfield Biography

I am Richard Westerfield if the English didn't mess with my name in the 1600 it now be "Dirk Lubberts" but that is another story. I am 66 years young. I got started trying to build a bamboo rod about 12 years ago had gotten to the planing stage when I had a stroke. I haven't done any work on bamboo till this year when I started on a nodeless rod. When I found out the jig I was using was off by an 1/8 I had to stop and try again with a new jig. In the mean time, I am making a brass fly reel. I should have it done by next week. My likes are bamboo rod, history of bamboo rods and their makers, genealogy and drag racing funny cars. I have a Friend Jim Head. He has a funny car and I hang with him two times a year. I also like jigs and gadgets. I have the smallest work shop you have ever seen. It's under the stair case of my apartment. I call the Harry Potter work shop. I live with sister Patty "Puggie"Westerfield.  She has always been a helping hand. She helps me in the shop sometimes. I can't get her to build a fly rod or to go fishing with me, but that's OK. I look forward to the Catskill meet every year. This year I did not go due to a pacemaker having put in me.
