A friend of mine used a floor model drill press to turn cork on the blank.  Chucked it in the press with the blank running through the hole in the pan.  Used a piece of pine with a hole drilled in it as a guide to keep it away from the pan.  Worked like a charm.  (Lee Orr)

I did the same thing with my first bamboo rod.  It worked pretty well.  (Greg Dawson)

I have and still do the same thing, but I turn it on a mandrel instead of on the blank.  (Bill Walters)
